Munich car factory wins Tekla BIM Awards 2025

2 July 2025

Tekla BIM Awards is a prestigious competition organized by Trimble – the producer of Tekla Structures software. Its aim is to distinguish the best projects implemented in BIM technology using Tekla solutions. In this year’s edition of the competition, the model submitted by MTA Engineering – Car factory in Munich – was the Laureate in the Industrial facilities category.

MTA Engineering  carried out the workshop design of the steel structure including composite parts, together with calculations of the steel connections for the roof and roof platforms in the TP04 building with dimensions in plan 205mx85m. The size of the 3D model and the degree of detailing provided the team with many challenges. Workshop and erection documentation for approximately 7,385 tonnes of steel was modelled and issued.

Complete 3d model was created in Tekla Structures, along with assembly plans, workshop documentation and NC files for the numerically controlled machine tools. In addition, the fabrication shop used generated CAM files. For composite structures, the Tekla function was used to determine the location of Nelson studs, which were machine-marked on the steel elements. Coordination of all the team’s work was carried out using the Trimble Connect cloud-based solution.

The work of MTA Engineering engineers was appreciated by an independent competition jury consisting of:

  • PhD, DSc, Eng. Adam Glema (Poznań University of Technology),
  • PhD, Eng. Wioletta Barcewicz (Warsaw University of Technology),
  • PhD, DSc, Eng. Marek Salamak (Silesian University of Technology).
