XVIII Congress of the Polish Chamber of Steel Construction

XVIII Congress of the Polish Chamber of Steel Structures was held on October 12, 2021 in Józefów near Warsaw. The congress brought together representatives of manufacturing, assembly and service companies, as well as representatives of state authorities and industry associations and organisations. The Congress also hosted representatives of the ECCS (European Convention on Steel Construction). Professor Leszek Balcerowicz was a special guest of the Congress.

The first session of the congress dealt with the use of steel in environmentally friendly investments. Georg Matzner (President of ECCS) presented this international association, which PIKS joined at the beginning of the year, and then Carlos del Castillo talked about a new project supervised by the Convention – NewSkin, which is a kind of ecosystem, accelerating the use of surface coating technologies on steel structures. An important highlight of the congress was the presence of Professor Leszek Balcerowicz, a prominent economist, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, responsible for leading the economic transformation in the 1980s and 1990s. In his speech, Professor Leszek Balcerowicz touched upon the economic situation in Poland and then answered questions from the audience. During the Congress, numerous debates, discussions and important backstage talks took place, and in the evening there was a Gala, during which, among others, 25 years of PIKS activity were celebrated.
